Brief description of the Project The Hong Kong Smart Design Awards (HKSDA) launched in 2012 has gradually grown to become renowned among international companies of the local gifts industry, product design and procurement. Started from 2019, the HKSDA extended towards the toys & games industry (T&G Ind.). Meanwhile, the refinement on product groups and the effort on nurturing local design talents will be the focus to succeed on well-established ground. Under Gifts category, there will be 5 product groups, namely: Corporate Promotional Gifts, Leisure & Travel, Occasional & Festival, Personal Accessories and Workplace. Whereas the Home & Houseware category consists of 5 product groups: Kitchen, Dining & Party, Living & Home Décor, Pet & Plant Care and Wellness & Personal Care. The Toys & Games category will be renamed as “Toys & Baby” and the product groups will be re-categorized based on target group/type of toys – which are Baby & Mother Care (moved from Gifts category), Infant & Pre-school Toys, Traditional Toys, Games and Electronic/Technical Toys. Kick-Start Project (from crown funding designers/enterprise) replaces Creative Individual Division of Conceptual Group. For exhibition venues, awarded products will continue to be showcased at trade fairs to unveil the capacity of Hong Kong creativity to local and overseas buyers, including Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair (TGF), Hong Kong Houseware Fair, Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair and Lifestyle Expo Tokyo. To enhance public awareness on HK design and innovativeness, exhibitions will be held in shopping mall, community venues and government establishment -- the Trade and Industry Tower. The Student Business Partnership Program (SBPP) encourages the transformation of OEM to ODM/OBM, more importantly, it is a valuable learning opportunity for design students. The HKSDA has expanded successfully. With the diversification of HKSDA, we can motivate and assist more product industries to evolve, so as to upgrade their competitiveness and better build the reputation of Hong Kong as design product sourcing hub in Asia.
